Warm Water
underfloor heating can be installed in the floor void of timber
suspended floors. There are many different forms of timber
suspended floor options one of which is usually bespoke to each
job. When deciding the right floor option for you, we can
ascertain the floor height of your property, to determine
whether installing either the overlay method or a system
integrated in between the joists, will be the most appropriate
for you.

Battened type system
In between the joists insulation is installed. The underfloor
heating pipework is fixed to the surface of the insulation and
the joists are notched at either end of the runs to allow the
pipes to return. Finally the finished floor is fitted either
directly on top of the joists or onto plywood.
|
This system can also be
fitted in between the joists in situations where there are low
ceilings.
Heat Emission Plate System
As explained in the battened floor option,
this system can be installed either on top of the suspended
floor, or between pre fitted wooden battens at fixed centres
.There is also an option to fit them between the existing joists
by screwing them directly on top above the insulation. This
offers maximum contact with the finished floor. Due to the lack
of thermal mass, the heat emission plates require a higher flow
pipe temperature, but by contrast it offers a quicker responsive
heat reaction time. Heat outputs of around 60 watts per square
metres are generally achieved from this configuration. |

There are many types of wood flooring which are
considered suitable for use with Underfloor
Heating and, equally, there are
several methods of installing timber, which also must be taken
into consideration before the system is designed. Particular
attention must be paid to the moisture content of wooden floors.
Not all timber floors are suitable for Underfloor
Heating and
advice should be sought from the flooring supplier or
from the trade association TRADA.
